Grade Level/ Subject: 4th grade/ Language Arts
Section One: Identifying all standards objectives-
Standards:
1.2 Reading, Analyzing, and Interpreting text
R3.B.3.3.2: Use headings to locate information in a passage, or identify content that would best fit in a specific section of text.
1.5 Quality of Writing
1.5.4.D: Write with an understanding of style, using a variety of sentence structures, precise words (e.g., adjectives, nouns, adverbs, verbs) that create voice.
1.6. Speaking and Listening
1.6.3.A: Listen critically and respond to others in small and large group situations.
1.6.3.B: Use appropriate volume and clarity in formal speaking presentations.
Objectives:
- Students will be able to identify information appropriate for each topic given for each event and compile the information accordingly
- Students will be able to orally communicate their findings and the reasoning behind their choices
- Students will be able to research a specific event and gain understanding about it
Section Two: Identifying method(s) of assessment and point of use throughout the lesson-
Pre-Assessment:
1. Students will previously know how to use the technology provided to gain research
2. Students will have experience working in collaborative groups
3. Students are able to easily navigate the webquest and find the proper information
Formative Assessment:
1. Students will gather the necessary information through online sources using the appropriate headings and methods of researching
2. Students will equally contribute to the creation of each part of the event
Summative Assessment:
1. Students will orally present the event that they have planned
2. Students will each have created a decoration that relates to their themed event that shows they understand the theme and why they chose to do that decoration.
Section Three: Identifying the learning activities/ instructional strategies and details as to how the lesson will be carried out-
Time Frame: five, 45 minute sessions
Lesson Details:
1. Students will be introduced to the webquest where they are going to plan a specific event
2. After going over each mission and what is expected of each student, as well as each group, the students will be split up into their pre-selected groups. The groups will be randomly selected ahead of time by the teachers drawing names out of a hat so that they are not biased groups.
3. Once the students are broken up into their groups, they will begin researching and looking at the resources provided for the specific event.
4. The students will work collaboratively to complete the tasks that are accompanied with the event. The group needs to make sure that they have a reasoning for why they chose what they did under each category (decorations, menu, card, and layout).
5. Each student should have created a decoration, a menu item, a card, and contributed to the layout of how the party will be set-up.
6. Once the students think they have completed each part of their event, they are to visit the after planning page to make sure that they have completed everything.
7. After the students have decided that they have everything and have successfully planned their event, they should prepare to share their event with the class.
Transition:
1. Students will start out at their assigned seats while we go over the assignment as a class.
2. Students will break up into their groups to complete the assignment.
3. We will come together as a class to listen to each group present their planned event.
Materials:
1. Access to a computer to view the various websites provided
2. Poster board - construction paper, pencils, crayons, markers
